In 1995, Ms. Self began working in the insurance industry as a compliance officer. She quickly became Chief Counsel and then was sought out by other insurance entities in various other locations throughout the country. Thereafter, she architected the legal and compliance departments for several insurance entities from the ground up. She has formed and operated risk retention groups, pre-paid dental plans, mutual insurance companies, captive insurers, self-insured funds, warranty service organizations, managing general agents and third party administrators to name a few. She has developed legal and compliance plans for her clients which have enabled them to enter into programs with the largest insurers in the world such as AIG and Zurich.
Along with start-ups and operations, Ms. Self has also been involved in many mergers and acquisitions in the insurance industry. She served on a 6 member corporate reorganization team which helped turn a struggling third party administrator into one of the largest and most profitable workers' compensation administrators in Oklahoma.
While serving as an Assistant Attorney General, Ms. Self served on the multi-state council which worked with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners in developing the interstate agent licensing compact. She also served as the liaison between the Attorney General's office and the Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner. She currently serves as the secretary for the Oklahoma Bar Association Insurance Law Section.
